DIY Log Rack

If you stack your firewood against the house because you have no other place to store it you should consider making a log rack. Not only will it hold both split and unsplit wood, but it also would enable the wood to dry more evenly. The rack can be easily made by following some simple instructions.

Materials Needed

  • Screw gun

  • Tape Measure

  • Square

  • 68, 3-inch corrosive resistant screws

  • 2, 2 x 6 x 80-inch treated pine boards

  • 4, 4 x 4 x 47-inch treated pine boards

  • 4, 2 x 6 x 11-inch treated pine boards

  • Treated plywood, 3/8-inch, 14 x 70-inches

How to Make a Log Rack

  1. Place the two 80-inch boards on edge parallel to each other. They should be approximately 11-inches apart.

  2. Place all four of the 11-inch boards perpendicular between the 80-inch boards allowing at least 18-inches between each board. Make sure the two outside boards are flush with the ends of the 80-inch boards.

  3. Use the screw gun to put 3 screws in each end of the 11-inch boards to secure them to the 80-inch boards.

  4. Put one of the 47-inch boards upright inside each corner of the frame you just built. Use the square to make sure the boards are perpendicular to the frame.

  5. Use the screw gun to put 6 screws through each of the corners and into each of the 47-inch boards. Three of the screws should be attached to the 11-inch board and three attached to the 80-board.

  6. Place the sheet of plywood on top of the frame between the 47-inch boards. Make sure the edges are flush with the 80-inch boards.

  7. Use the remainder of the screws to attach the plywood to the frame.
