Poodle Skirt

If you are trying to recreate a look from the 1950s, a poodle skirt is a great choice and is easy to make.  You can purchase a pattern and the felt fabric for your poodle skirt at a craft store.  While you can make your skirt any color, although pink was a very popular choice in the 1950s.  Follow the pattern to create your poodle skirt.  If you do not own a sewing machine, you may want to enlist the help of a friend or family member.  Purchase a poodle applique to attach to your skirt when you are done sewing.  You may also want to add rhinestones, sequins or other embellishments to the poodle or the skirt.

1980s Outfit

Creating an outfit that is reminiscent of the 1980s is as easy as cutting up an old sweatshirt and bleaching an old pair of jeans.  Sweatshirts in the 1980s were oversized and worn off the shoulder.  To recreate this look, cut the collar off of an old sweatshirt to make the neck wider.  You can also cut the arms off of the sleeves to create short sleeves.  Pair this sweatshirt with a brightly-colored tank top and a pair of leggings or acid wash jeans.  To create a pair of acid wash jeans, soak an old pair of jeans in a bucket of bleach for about an hour.  Once you take the jeans out of the bleach, wring them out and scrub them with a rock.  Wash the jeans in the washer, making sure to wash them separately from other clothes.

Embellished Clothing

Try adding embroidery, rhinestones or flower appliques to bell bottom jeans or peasant tops to make them look like clothes from the 1970s.  You can find rhinestones and flower appliques at a craft store, and use an iron or fabric glue to attach them to your jeans and tops.
