DIY Stucco Mobile Home Skirting
Most every mobile home is situated on a raised foundation, and the addition of skirting gives it the finishing touches to look like home. If you install the skirting yourself, there are a few different materials that are recommended, especially if you plan on using stucco as a coating.
Materials
- Wheelbarrow
- Portland cement
- Hydrated lime
- Sand
- Shovel
- Trowel
- Plywood
- 2-by-4-by-8 lumber
- Nails
- Builders paper
- Staples
- Staple gun
- Circular saw
- Snips
Mixing
- Pour 5 gallons of fine sand into the wheelbarrow. Mix in a gallon of the hydrated lime and a quart of portland cement.
- Use a water hose and start adding water very slowly. Mix with the shovel and keep doing so until the consistency is think and creamy. Do not over use water as this will ruin the mixture.
- Do not let the stucco dry out; if it starts to get dry, add a little water to bring it back to the right consistency.
Skirting
- Measure the height from the ground to the base of the home.
- Starting at the corner, cut a 2-by-4 and nail into place, do this every eight feet to match the length of the plywood.
- Cut eight feet sections of plywood to be placed for skirting.
- Cut and staple building paper to each section of plywood.
- Apply chicken wire to plywood securing with staples.
- Nail the plywood to 2-by-4 and base of home. Do this all the way around the mobile home first.
- Apply stucco mixture with trowel smoothing in for a flat or textured surface. Make sure to fully cover all wire and paper.
- Allow for a few days of drying before painting.
