Dangers of Energy Drinks
Energy drinks can give you a temporary boost, but they can also be dangerous. It may seem easy to reach for one when you are feeling sluggish, but before you start chugging them you want to look at some of the more dangerous side effects they can have.
Energy drinks are extremely popular with people of all ages. They help with people that need that extra boost and don’t drink coffee. They can be easily found in any store or gas station and are very likely to give you that extra boost you need to get through the day. However, you should be aware of the dangers that lurk behind these popular beverages.
Becoming Dehydrated
A lot of people that are being active will turn to energy drinks to hydrate themselves and get that extra boost they need. This can be harmful. Because energy drinks typically contain caffeine, they are actually dehydrating themselves because caffeine is a diuretic. This means that it will decrease the amount of water that the body is holding. If you must drink energy drinks, then be sure to keep hydrated with non caffeinated beverages as well.
Trouble Sleeping
Because of the high amounts of caffeine and sugar in these drinks, you can expect to have trouble sleeping if you drink them anywhere from 5 to 7 hours before sleeping. The side effects of an energy drink will result in feeling energized and wide awake. These side effects can sometimes take hours to wear off.
High Blood Pressure
It should be noted that your blood pressure can increase rapidly when you drink energy drinks on a regular basis. Your heart rate may become rapid and you could even suffer from heart palpitations. While these are typically harmless, they can still be scary to experience. For those with an underlying heart condition they aren’t harmless.
