Different Types of Boarding Kennels
When your canine family member needs a place to stay overnight because you are leaving town for a vacation or business trip, you want to find the best possible kennel to meet your needs. There are a few different types of boarding kennels to consider.
Veterinary boarding kennels
If your dog has any special health needs, it is a good idea to have him or her boarded at a kennel in a veterinary clinic. Veterinary kennels are equipped to handle any medical issues that may arise. If your dog takes medication, you can rely on a veterinary kennel to dispense the medication appropriately. These kennels, however, often have fewer special amenities. For example, dogs may have smaller pens and may not have an outdoor play area but will go on short walks instead.
Regular boarding kennels
Your town likely has several kennels whose primary business is to provide boarding services. Most kennels of this type provide both outdoor and indoor play areas and comfortable pens for the dogs. They often also provide basic bathing and grooming services. Higher-end spa kennels may offer special services for your pampered pooch, such as massages and pedicures. Some kennels even offer webcams so you can keep an eye on your dog online.
Boot camp boarding kennels
If you are taking a longer vacation and would like for your dog to be fully obedient by the time you get back, consider a boot camp kennel. Dog boot camp kennels provide intensive obedience training for your dog while you are out of town. The instructors will then teach you the commands upon your return so that you can maintain the training once you and your dog are at home. These boot camps are more expensive than regular kennels but are useful if your dog needs training and you do not have the time to do it yourself.
