Dog Vitamins for Hair Loss

Hair loss in dogs is usually owed to a deficiency. Usually, hair loss can be easily corrected by adding vitamins or nutrients to your dog's diet. If this does not decrease the dog's hair loss, the dog should be seen immediately by your veterinarian for further examination.

Causes

If you find your dog's coat is shedding more than usual or that it is developing small bald patches, this could be from a vitamin deficiency. Other causes to consider could be fleas, dermatitis, fungal infection or parasites. The first step is to add vitamins to your dog's diet to determine whether this solves the problem.

Nutritional Vitamins

According to Daily Puppy, the best vitamins that help nourish a dog's skin and coat are the following: biotin, vitamins E, C, A, B-complex and fish oil supplements. If your dog's food is lacking in any of these essential vitamins, consider adding a multivitamin to its diet. There are a few variations available including powder form, chewable tablets, vitamin treats and liquid drops. Always purchase pet-safe products for your dog and follow dosage instructions because it is better to use products made specifically for them, given in the right amount.

If Vitamins Do Not Help

If your pet were suffering from a vitamin deficiency, hair loss should decrease after a couple of weeks of vitamin use. However, if you do not see signs of improvement, contact your veterinarian. It could mean your dog is suffering from a different ailment. Hair loss in dogs is  common when they are suffering from a flea infestation or when they simply have dry skin, which can lead to dermatitis. Veterinarian's can provide a flea treatment or a nutrient-enriched food additive for dry skin.
