Double Hung Window Types
Double hung windows add a contemporary and classic look to any room and are generally made of wood, vinyl, aluminum, or fiberglass. Most owners prefer double-hung windows because it provides more ventilation than a standard window. These windows are longer rather than wider.
Double hung windows have recently gained popularity as a replacement window and for new residential projects.
Standard
The standard double-hung window is made up of two smaller windows; it is more familiar in older homes. The upper outside portion of the window slides down and the lower portion slides upwards.
The standard window rectangular and comes in various sizes, although the window is always going to be longer in height, rather than width. Depending on the model of the window, there may be tilting sections. Cleaning, weatherproofing, and repairing are easier to manage because of the design of the window.
Standard double-hung windows can also come with an arched-top exterior, which has a rounded top to prevent you from having to cut the glass.
Round Top
The round top window is close in resemblance to the standard format. The round top is arched at the top; which is normally cut in regular windows. The round top, double-hung window provides an architectural and sophisticated look.
Replacement and New Construction Windows
Replacement windows are double hung windows that keep your existing frame and trim. The custom window would basically be just the glass portion fitting into the frame.
New construction windows are either standard or round top and they come in set sizes only.
