Dressing Tips for Plus Size Women
Women of any size and shape can be sexy and stylish. Even those who are blessed with voluptuous curves can look as well-dressed as their thin, waify counterparts. The secret is knowing the right way to dress for your particular body type.
- Squeezing into a smaller size does not make you appear thinner. In fact, it will have the opposite effect. Wearing clothing that fits too snugly - even if you are average sized - will only emphasize and exaggerate any natural bumps and creases that your body forms. Look for clothes in a size that contour to your body, but do not overly cling.
- Use a tailor. Many women who fall into the plus size category are not an overall size throughout their entire body. Measuring around the hips may give a different size than if measuring around the waist or thighs. Poor fitting clothes will appear unattractive and sloppy. When purchasing off the rack, buy a size that is comfortable and fits well overall, then bring it to your tailor to make adjustments in problem areas, or areas that can be fitted smaller.
- Do not be tempted to just wear black. Color will brighten up anybody's wardrobe and can also draw more focus to the face. Be sure to not overdo huge patterns or clashing colors - this pertains to women of all sizes, really. Balance patterns and bright colors with complementing solids or basics like a denim jacket.
- Accesorize. If you are feeling self-conscious about a particular body part or area, use accesories to draw the attention to another part of your body. For example, a stylish scarf will emphasize the face. An attention-grabbing necklace can draw the eye towards a nice decolletage. Show off your legs with an above-the-knee fitted skirt and high heels.
- Be confident. Confidence is the best asset to a woman's style. Most negative body image issues are only noticeable to you. Other people will only notice your energy, confidence and self-assurance.
