How to Apply Ear Drops

Ear Drops for the Removal of Ear Wax

Ear wax naturally builds up in your ears over time, and can lead to slight hearing loss if not removed. Doctors urge not to use Q-tips in your ears to remove ear wax buildup due to the risks associated with this cleaning method. However, you can successfully remove the ear wax from your ears by using ear drops designed for this purpose.

  1. Purchase ear drops at your local pharmacy that are designed to clean your ears and remove ear wax build up. There are many different brands of these drops on the market.

  2. Tilt your head to the side with your right ear facing up and your left ear facing towards the floor.

  3. Squeeze the dropper that is provided with your ear wax drops to suck the solution out of the bottle and into the dropper.

  4. Gently squeeze the dropper to insert the required number of ear drops into your ear. Read the manufacturer’s directions to determine how many drops per ear are recommended. This is usually between five to ten drops per ear.

  5. Allow the ear drops to work their way into your ear and ear canal.

  6. Keep your head tilted to the side for about three minutes.

  7. Place a clean tissue over the treated ear and then tilt your head so that your right ear is now facing the floor and your left ear is facing upwards.

  8. Keep your head in this position for a couple of minutes so that the ear wax can drain from your ear and onto the tissue that you are holding in place.

  9. Repeat this process on the other side by following steps two through eight again.

  10. Repeat this process at least once a week to keep your ears clean and wax-free.
