Easy Tree Stump Removal
It is crucial to remove a tree stump after a tree is felled for a couple of reasons. The tree could grow again putting out leaves and shoots, or it could develop a fungal infection which will possibly spread to other greenery in the garden. There are a variety of methods to choose.
Winch
A winch can be used to remove smaller tree stumps that still have at least four feet of stump protruding from the ground, as there must be something to tie the winch to and provide leverage.
Stump Grinder
The stump grinder leaves the majority of the roots in-ground. Instead, the stump grinder does exactly as its name implies: it grinds the stump into sawdust or wood chips, making an easy matter to remove. Wood chips are used as attractive ground cover elsewhere. Once the stump grinder has removed enough of the stump to be underground, the area can then be covered with sod or the bed of a new flower garden.
Mini excavator
Larger tree stumps require a mini excavator. This method removes the tree stump, the roots and a good portion of the soil. The hole can be refilled, too. Watch out for plumbing, electrical wires or sprinkler systems while digging with the excavator.
Caustic Soda
Pour one part caustic soda into a bucket with two parts water and mix the solution thoroughly. Drill holes into the tree stump about three or four inches apart and pour the solution into the holes until the stump is soaked. Reapply on a weekly basis until the stump is soft and pulls apart easily. Use a shovel to break up and remove.
Hire out
Several companies offer tree stump removal, and most use a stump grinder. Check the company has a license and is insured in case of damage to any property.
