Education Needed for Animal Pest Professionals
Animal pest professionals remove vermin from businesses and residential areas. If you want to become an animal pest professional, then you must fulfill certain educational requirements. You must obtain a high school diploma, get on the job training or take classes and fulfill state licensing requirements.
High School Diploma
Pest control businesses require their employees to have a high school diploma. They will also accept an employee who has obtained their General Equivalency Diploma (GED). One reason for this is that most states require candidates for a pest control license to have their high school diploma.
On the Job Training or Other Pest Control Classes
Animal pest control professionals can learn about pest control through either on the job training or pest control classes. Pest control trainees learn about things such as general pest management, rodent management, termite management and fumigation. Many pest control companies offer on the job animal pest control training in these topics for their employees. Some companies pay for employees to take outside classes. Again, training provided often depends on the state licensing requirements.
State Licensing
All states require animal pest professionals to have a license. In order to get this license, candidates must pass an exam. License candidates must also fulfill certain requirements before taking the test. The requirements vary from state to states, so animal pest control professionals should check to see what type of education and experience their state requires. In addition, many states also require a background check prior to licensing.
