Electric Car Conversion Components

With gas prices soaring, electric cars have become a topic of conversation once again. There are numerous variations of the electric car concept, ranging from hybrids to completely electric vehicles. There are even vehicles that are converted into electric cars with a conversion process.

There are certain components that you need to have in place to convert a vehicle into an electric car. These are the components that power the vehicle and change it from a combustion-based engine to an electric one.

Components for electric car conversion:

  • Electric motor. The electric motor is the main component in the conversion process because it replaces the gasoline engine. It works the same way as a fan motor, although obviously on a larger scale. Its purpose is to generate sufficient power to move the tires and keep the car running. The battery supplies the voltage to keep the motor running.

  • Battery. Unlike a gas-powered vehicle, the battery in an electric car continues to provide the necessary power to keep the motor operating the entire time the car is running. Although there have been technological advancements and different battery types in the work, the lead-acid battery is still the standard battery found in electric cars.

  • Inverter-Controller. The purpose of the inverter-controller is to change the battery's direct current to an alternating current. This adds power to the vehicle, but also makes it possible for a vehicle to go from an overnight charge on direct current to efficiently running on an alternating current.
