Electrolysis Vs. Laser Hair Removal
The hair removal process can become complicated when you want a more permanent solution than what shaving and waxing can offer. Two methods of permanent hair removal are electrolysis and laser hair removal. Both procedures are considered permanent, but may result in hair regrowth.
Electrolysis removes hair by inserting a needle into the hair follicle and sending an electric current through the hair root, which kills it. Laser hair removal uses a laser that penetrates the skin and goes to the hair follicle, stopping the growth.
Electrolysis works best on small areas, such as the upper lip or the bikini area, because the process is time-consuming. It may take four to 10 hours to complete the upper lip area and eight to 16 hours to finish the bikini area. Laser hair removal works best on light-skinned people who have dark hair because dark hair better absorbs the laser's light.
Both electrolysis and laser hair removal are permanent processes. However, some people have hair regrowth with electrolysis and need to have additional treatments. With laser hair removal, people often need maintenance treatments about every six months.
