Emergency Cash Assistance for Students

When in college, you may come across hard times financially. There are many possibilities such as being laid off or a family emergency that may require you to seek emergency financial assistance. As long as your reasons are honorable there are a few options available to help you in your time of need.

Loans and grants

Students can apply for a federal supplemental opportunity grant. These are for college students that are in exceptional financial need and are available year round. If you are given funding through this type of grant you could be granted between $100 and $4,000 for their needs. Another type of loan available to students is a Federal Perkins loan. This kind of loan has a low interest rate, around 5 percent. With this loan, students can get up to $5,500. You can also look into emergency scholarships and grants set up by sponsors and alumni for students.  It is also a good idea to check the financial aid office of your school.

Financial Aid

You can apply for financial aid and usually there is an emergency fund available for students that are less than $1,000. Some schools require that the borrowed money is returned at the end of the term. If borrowing from this type of fund some schools will even require a minimum GPA to borrow and it can be required that you submit a statement explaining your situation and what you will be needing the funding for.

Options outside of School

Finally, there are private money lenders that you can go to over the internet or find in your local neighborhood.
