Extremely Small Garden Ideas

Many gardeners have to deal with space constraints when planting their garden. If you are confined to planting your garden in an extremely small space, don't panic. There are a few different ideas that you can use to make the most of the space that you have available. You just have to get creative.

Create Your Own Custom Container

If you are limited to a small garden, you might have problems finding a flowering container that is suited to your space. You can easily remedy this problem by creating your own custom flower container. Measure the space that you have available and determine the ideal size for your container. Use some lumber, nails and screws and build a customer flower bed that will accommodate your small garden space.

Take Advantage of Vertical Space

Some plants can be trained to climb trellises or fences. These plants make an ideal addition to an extremely small garden, because they take up a relatively small amount of ground space. Look for climbing versions of your favorite plants, such as climbing roses. Some sprawling fruits and vegetables, such as melons, often come in smaller versions that can be trained to climb a trellis, as well. Visit your local garden supply center and ask for some suggestions.

Hang Your Plants

If you do not have any ground space available, get creative and design your own hanging garden. You can easily grow fruits and vegetables in a hanging basket. Some of the most popular options include tomatoes and strawberries. Flowering plants often thrive in hanging flower containers, as well. Choose a wide variety of colors and textures to add some visual interest to your small space.
