Facts About the Car Engines

Most people these days cannot do with a vehicle for a length of time. Most people do not know certain facts about the car engines that run these people back and forth during the day and week. These informational facts may surprise some people.

A typical engine is a four-stroke engine. This type of engine was introduced in Germany. Car engines have cylinders that work in conjunction with the pistons. These cylinders can be aligned in three ways. A straight line is considered in line or straight. Hearing someone say the car has straight six deals directly with the cylinders in the engine. A V formation, which is notably the cylinders being angled from one another or the alignment directly across from one another, is known as a "flat" engine.

Spark plugs are where the combustion of the engine starts. Without spark plugs the engine will not run or attempt to run. A "misfire" in the spark plugs means at least one needs to be replaced. Keeping an engine lubricated directly affects the performance of the engine. Running a car without any lubrication will do one of two things that will cost the owner of the vehicle more than just money. A cracked block is a dangerous and expensive thing to deal with. A blown gasket will cause severe damage if left alone.

Even though most engines are combustion engines, the need for coolant is extremely vital to the performance of an engine. Coolant does exactly what it is described as, it cools the places in the engine that would otherwise overheat every time the vehicle was turned on. There are several types of engines today. There is an engine that will run on water, one that runs on propane and the most common type of engine, which runs on petroleum or gasoline.
