Find Affordable Hostels

Hostels by nature are more affordable than hotels. Budget travelers look for hostels in the area they visit. They are located worldwide, but most especially in Europe. Finding a hostel discount or deal takes more work than finding a hotel discount, but it results in a much cheaper stay. Some hostels offer deals at various times of the year.

Finding affordable hostels takes a little more work than finding an affordable hotel. Most hostel specials are not found on the discount travel websites. Because hostels are designed to be more affordable than hotels, they don't need to offer any specials.

• Contact the hostel directly. Some hostels have websites, and some don't. Even if the hostel where you would like to stay is listed online, there is no guarantee that they will have sales listed. It's best to contact the hostel directly by telephone, and ask about any discounted rates.

• Check out forums in the area where the hostel is located. Sometimes other people will tell if there is a special or travel deal. Read and search traveling forums as well. Post a message asking if anyone knows of specials or deals for hostels in the area.  Someone might have some information handy.

• Contact your credit card company and see if they are affiliated with the hostel where you are staying. Some credit cards have member rewards with hotels, car rentals, and possibly hostels. It doesn't hurt to try.

• Perform a Google search. Try searching the hostel name and the word special or deal.

• The Internet can be very helpful when researching hostels in a certain area. If the hostel has a website, the odds are they will have their rates listed on their as well.

• Ask around. If you know someone that has stayed at a hostel before ask them if they know of any ways to save.

• Contact a travel agent. They might be able to get you a good price.

• You can also contact the visitor's center in the area you plan on visiting. They are specifically there to help tourists. It's very likely they will know the most about local hostels and deals.

• You can attempt to find a website that includes hostels in their travel deals. This might take a bit of work, but if you can save money, it would be worth it.
