Find the Cheapest Packing and Moving Company

Moving can cost a lot of money for someone when they have to pay for things such as disconnection and reconnection fees, and deposits. That is why it is so important to save the most money you can on a professional moving and packing company. Finding the best price for movers may take a little time and effort, but it is well worth the savings.

  • Open your local phone book or go online to search for professional moving companies in the area. You also may want to ask around to find names of movers that others have used before. Word of mouth allows you to get people's opinions from their own personal experiences.

  • Call at least five to 10 moving companies in the area. Many won’t provide packing and moving services, and you want the option of a few different companies to work with so that you can negotiate the price. Write down all of the company's information, who you talked with and the quote they gave you.

  • Get quotes from these different companies. While you are on the phone getting quotes ask about any discounts for which you may qualify. Some moving companies will discount your bill if you move on an uncommon day they don’t have appointments or for being a member of a specific organization like the Armed Forces or AAA. Ask if paying cash makes a difference in the price since they don't have to pay the processing fees.

  • Take the prices that you get from the companies and then narrow it down to a couple. Send those companies the other companies' quotes so that they can offer you the lowest amount. If you tell them what you can afford to pay they may even be willing to just give you that price to get the job. When you do negotiate a price be sure that you get their name so there is no confusion on the bill later.

  • Look up companies from nearby towns as well, and where you are moving to because they may be willing to drive and give you the cheapest price. Get their rates and a quote, and tell them the lowest quote that you have from your current area to see if they will bring their price down.
