Finding a Pet Shop with Exotic Animals
Many pet owners consider purchasing pets other than the typical cat and dog. Exotic pets can be intriguing and exciting. After you have done your research and have decided you are ready for an exotic pet, the next step is to find out where you can go to purchase that pet.
Talk to local breeders
Research local breeders and contact them to ask where the animals they breed are being sold. Lots of breeders will sell their animals to reputable local pet shops, so they may be able to point you in the direction of a pet shop that sells exotic animals. Even if that particular breeder does not sell their animals to pet shops, the breeder may still know where you might go to find exotic animals.
Look in your local newspaper
Pet shops often run ads in the local newspaper and will sometimes list the animals that they have for sale that week. Since exotic animals are becoming more popular, it is likely that the will advertise if a particular exotic pet has just arrived.
Research online
Try researching by the type of exotic pet for which you are looking and your location. It is possible that there is a pet shop with exotic animals within your town. If not, looking online may reveal if there are any within traveling distance.
Look outside your area
Sometimes, to find a pet shop with exotic animals you may need to look in larger cities that are outside your local area. Be prepared to drive quite a distance if looking for an exotic pet that is not usually carried in pet shops. However, if the particular pet you are looking for is not being sold in stores because it is illegal in your state, it is not a good idea to purchase that pet out of state and then bring it back. Most likely, it is illegal to own as well as sell.
