Grants for Registered Nurse Education
If you plan to attend nursing school, you know that between the tuition and books it is quite expensive and tuition is continually on the rise. Most students want to take out as few student loans as possible, but still need help paying for their education. There are several nursing grants you can apply for if you are seeking the registered nursing credential.
What are Grants and Scholarships?
Grants and scholarships is money given to you to help pay for your nursing education. This is free money that you never have to pay back, which of course is appealing to anyone in college. These grants are typically competitive, meaning there will be several students applying for the same grant. You must follow the instructions of the grant or scholarship in which you are applying because if you do not, you will be passed over for another candidate.
Types of Nursing Grants and Scholarships
If you are a minority student you can apply for the Minority Nurse Scholarship. This grant is awarded two times per year in $1000 increments. While this may not sound like a lot of money, you can apply for several scholarships that are geared toward nursing education, which does add up.
The National Health Service Corps also awards scholarships to nursing students in various amounts. The condition with this scholarship offering is you have to agree to serve at one year in health area with a shortage for every year you were helped while in college. So if you are awarded scholarship monies for two years, you would agree to serve two years once you are finished with school.
