Grants for Social Work Education Degrees
Social work is one of the most important jobs that anyone can have. There is a growing need for social workers as children enter foster care, more people become jobless and others lose their homes. For students entering a social work education program that show a financial need, there are several governmental grants available to help get them through school.
Pell Grant: The Pell Grant is awarded to any student on financial aid that shows a need for financial assistance to pay for school. To get the grant, you cannot have already earned an undergraduate degree. Grants are usually less than $5,000 a year.
FSEOG Program: This stands for Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant. It is designed for students that need more money than a Pell grant in order to go to school. The grant is often anywhere between $1,000 and $4,000 on top of what a social work student would receive from a Pell Grant.
ACG Program: The Academic Competitiveness Grant Program awards social work students with a grant for the first two years of their undergraduate studies. Students that receive this grant must have graduated from a rigorous secondary school with good grades. Just like the FSEOG program, students are still eligible for the Pell Grant.
National Association of Black Social Workers: This scholarship is only offered to African American students that are going into social service work fields. This is an opportunity to help them get the money that they need for schooling. In order to get the scholarship, students must be enrolled full time, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and have at least 12 credits of community service on their record.
