Graphic Design Ideas for Kids

Teaching kids that have a love for art the skill of graphic design can help them in their carrier when they are older.  Simple projects can help develop their talent and hunger for design.  Some designs can be created on paper and others on a computer with art or design software.  Encourage their interest and imagination in this growing field.

  • If you have pictures that need to be placed into albums or scrapbooks, this would be a great project for your child.  Give them the pictures and the scrapbook or art supplies to put together a scrapbook.  This would be great practice for children of any age to lay things out with balance and order.

  • Purchase art-specific supplies in order to allow your child the ability to further their art skills.  Art supplies are necessary, colored pencils and pads of paper are a must.  A paint program for your computer can be purchased as another outlet for your child.  Graphic design programs for children are on the market and would be a great help, too.

  • Children can try recreating and creating logos on paper or their computer.  Logos from cereal boxes, television or the newspaper can be used.  Have them copy the logo and them change it to make it their own.  You could also have them create a new logo for a brand they love.  They could try creating a logo for their school or other organization they are familiar with.

  • They can make a new cover for a book that they have read making sure that they include the title and author.  Creating a newsletter could be great practice for them as well.  If their school does not send out a newsletter maybe you could approach the school about the students creating one and have your child be the designer.  Other students can send in articles and help with the layout.
