Hair Systems for Men
Hair systems are popular and common ways for men to replace their hair loss. Men have a number of options when considering hair systems. They can opt for temporary or permanent solutions that can help them feel and look their best.
Hairpieces
Hairpieces are common hair systems used by a number of men. Men wear hairpieces over thinning and balding areas. Newer hairpieces are typically applied to the scalp with a strong adhesive for a better fit. Hairpiece styles are:
- Full lace: Fits comfortably on the head with lace netting. Hairpieces usually last for three months or more.
- Lace front: Similar to full lace except it does not cover the entire head, and lasts for three months.
- Disposal: Typically discarded in a month or 30 days after use.
- Skin: Resembles the scalp and can be custom-matched to the person's scalp color. Generally lasts for two or three months.
- Conventional: This is the traditional toupee. Toupees typically last longer than other hairpieces. Some men wear their toupees for eight months to a year if the piece is well taken care of.
Hair Restoration
This type of hair system may be surgical, non-surgical or chemical. This hair replacement is generally permanent and uses the man's own hair to complete the procedure. Types of hair restoration are:
- Hair grafting: Implants hair follicles from the back of a man's head to the area affected by hair loss. Mini-grafts, micro-grafts and slit grafts are common procedures.
- Chemical: Common products are Rogaine and other topical solutions containing minoxidil. Minoxidil encourages hair growth by stimulating the follicles.
