Contemporary
Contemporary design is sleek and clean, usually dominated by solid colors, muted neutrals and bold punches of texture and color in fabric, furniture and accessories. Often the furniture is lower to the ground and has metal frames or legs. Emphasis is on the basic shape and forms of the furniture and accessories. The most graphic elements are saved for artwork and/or accessories.
Modern
Modern design is rooted in the minimal look popularized by Sweden in the 1970s. A black and white color palette dominates, with some color, geometric shapes and furniture that can serve dual purposes. Everything looks clean, and is very streamlined. Modern design does not use many accessories, preferring polished surfaces and the juxtaposition of textures.
Country
Wood, vintage striped or gingham fabrics, handmade pottery and soft colors are the hallmarks of a country design. Elements have a rustic quality and a history that lends a sense of authenticity to the room.
Shabby Chic
Shabby chic style was introduced in the1980s and is characterized by soft floral prints and white fabrics, white weathered furniture and vintage accessories. Bright and airy with a feeling of a cottage living. Shabby chic is predominantly feminine.
