Homemade Deck Furniture
Homemade deck furniture can be made of almost anything you would like. The only requirement is that it is able to withstand the weather, including rain. However, if you are planning to store your deck furniture in a shed only to be taken out when you are using it, any materials at all would be fine.
There are books with plans for deck furniture or you can search online. Even that is not necessary though, you might be able to look around your property or neighborhood to find items that inspire you to come up with your own plans.
- Using already precut and measured lumber, such as 2 X 4s, you can make chairs for your deck. Build the frame first and then add the slats for the back and seating. This is not only very easy but also inexpensive. After constructing the chairs, work on making them one of a kind, with your paint choices and designs. Paint them in bright colors with whimsical designs. If you are an artist, you may want to paint a scene. For those with less artistic talent, bright dots, flowers or stripes will add interest. You can also make a table to match.
- PVC is another material that is easy to work with and that can be used to make deck furniture. Cut the pipe to the size you want and join the pieces together with PVC cement and joints.
- Logs and twigs found on your property can be joined together to make interesting pieces. Small tables can be made by weaving twigs together. Or build a table with logs. Look for logs similar in size, to minimize cutting.
- Make cushions for your furniture by choosing waterproof fabric that you like and sewing them up yourself. This will save you a lot of money over store-bought outdoor cushions.
Use your imagination as you look around and you are sure to find other ideas for making your own deck furniture.
