Homemade Gutter Cleaning Tools
Once winter has broke, and spring has emerged, you will need to begin the task of yard cleanup. Part of this task entails cleaning out your gutters to ensure that they are clean and free of any debris. There is no need to purchase expensive gutter cleaning tools, you can easily make your own homemade tools for gutter cleaning.
- Before beginning any work on cleaning out your gutters, you should first inspect the gutters to see how much debris they have collected over the winter. Use a ladder to position yourself close to the gutters so that you can check for damages as well.
- You can use an empty plastic soda bottle of milk jug to form a scoop that will remove the leaves and other debris from your gutters easily. All you need to do is simply cut off the top part of the container so that the front edge is able to be placed flat on the surface of the gutter.
- If your gutters are narrow or hard to reach in some spots, you should use a large cooking spoon or spatula to get into the hard to reach places and scoop out the debris that is blocking your gutters.
- Cut open a large garbage bag and lay it flat on the ground underneath the area where you are working. You can toss the debris that you scoop out of your gutters down onto the garbage bag, and then dispose of the whole thing when you are done, leaving your yard mess free.
- After you have removed most of the debris, you will still have small remains of debris clinging to the sides of your gutters. This problem is easily solved by using your standard garden hose to flush the remaining debris out of your gutters and down your drain spout, leaving your gutters clean and debris free.
