How to Make a Patio Umbrella Stand

Homemade Patio Umbrella Stand

Creating your own patio umbrella stand is truly very simple. The best part is you can make it look unique. It does not have to be just functional. It is very easy to use the same elements from the rest of your patio on your umbrella stand. Set aside a morning or afternoon to complete this project.

Homemade patio items are fun to make and an umbrella stand is no different. Get out your craft supplies, roll up your sleeves and get moving; that is all there is to it!

Decide which method you want to use for making your umbrella stand. You can use a large plastic bucket with sand and rocks in the bottom. Quite honestly, this does not hold up as well as the cement method. The cement method holds up in nasty weather and can easily match your décor.

Supplies:

  • Bag of quick-set cement

  • PVC

  • Tape– choose a thick tape that holds up well

  • Flower pot or other sturdy container– choose one about 14 inches around

Directions:

  1. Measure PVC and cut so that it comes just above your container.

  2. Put tape over each end of the PVC tubing; this will keep cement out.

  3. Apply tape over holes in the pot, if you choose to use a flowerpot.

  4. Mix cement, as directed. Add to pot, keeping PVC in the center of pot.

  5. Hold the PVC in place, until the cement begins to set.

  6. Allow cement to set completely.

  7. Add any decoration you wish to the pot.

  8. Add you; umbrella and enjoy!

It truly is that simple!

Some final notes: The PVC is where you will slide the umbrella into, so that you can easily remove the umbrella in the off-season. Do not be afraid to decorate the umbrella stand; you want it to blend in with your décor.
