How Do Carpet Cleaning Products Work?

Household Carpet Cleaning Products

There are many different products that you use to clean your carpet. All-natural products such as ammonia, baking soda, vinegar and club soda are a great way to clean your carpet without using harsh chemicals. There are also many different commercial carpet cleaning products designed to dry clean, spot clean and deep clean your carpet as well.

  • Ammonia is a great all-natural product that can be used to remove stains from your carpet. Mix a quarter-cup of ammonia with two cups of water, and then add to an empty spray bottle. Spray this mixture onto your tough stains and allow the solution to sit for a few minutes before scrubbing the stain.

  • Dish soap is a great mild detergent that you can use to clean your carpets by hand. You only need a small amount of dish soap. You should mix about three drops of dish soap per gallon of water that your bucket holds. Clean the surface of your carpets with a scrub brush and your cleaning solution. Use a towel to soak up some of the moisture, and then apply fans to help the carpet dry the rest of the way.

  • Baking soda and corn starch can be mixed together to form a dry cleaning product for your carpets. Use two parts corn starch to one part baking soda for the perfect combination of cleaning and deodorizing properties. For example, if you use two cups of corn starch, you will mix in one-cup of baking soda.
