How Clothes Dryers Work

Years ago people had to hang clothes on a wire to dry. It would take hours for one single piece of clothing to dry. Now, every person across the nation has access to clothes dryers. Clothes dryers are a great way to dry clothing more quickly and efficiently. Here’s how they work:

There are many different types of clothes dryers on the market today, including front loading, top loading, gas dryers, electric dryers, stand alone dryers and stackable units. No matter what type of dryer is used, they all work the same.

The user simply puts wet clothing into the dryer and sets the heat to low, medium or high. Once the door is shut, the dryer can began working. The motor starts and the belt rotates the tumbler. While the tumbler is rotating the clothes, air is drawn into the dryer. The heating unit warms the air. As the wet clothes begin to heat up, they create steam. The steam is released through the exhaust pipe.

The dryer has sensors in the unit to make sure that the clothes do not get too hot and burn up. As a safety precaution, the machine will automatically turn off as soon as it reaches a certain temperature.

Dryers are a fairly simple machine that pulls in air, heats it and releases it through the exhaust. This process is so simple that all the machines do the same thing. The only difference is brand, style and price.
