How Do Solar Atomic Watches Work?

How Do Solar Atomic Watches Get Powered?

If you often forget to perform basic maintenance tasks on your watch, you may wish to consider purchasing a solar atomic watch. This type of watch provides perfect time and yet is virtually maintenance free. These watches have been around since November 2001 when Casio released the first model. They have only gained in popularity since then.

A solar atomic watch actually requires little to operate. Silicon solar cells are placed under the dial. These cells absorb light and convert it into electricity. The electricity is then used to power the timepiece with the help of a secondary battery designed primarily to perform this function. When you allow the battery to fully charge, the watch can run for months and you will not have to do anything with it.

Although these timepieces are referred to as solar atomic watches, artificial light may also be used to power the silicon cells. The charge will not last as long when you choose this option and it will take longer to obtain a full charge. The use of artificial light does allow you to use the watch even when the sun doesn't make an appearance for an extended period of time.

The main advantage of using the sun to power your watch is the fact that you can have more features without worrying about battery drains. Solar power constantly charges your battery so you can make use of these as often as you like. Atomic calibration ensures you have the right time at all times also.
