How Do You Get an Auto Insurance Quote?

Before you can drive your car, you will need to get auto insurance.  Maybe you already have auto insurance, but you think you are paying too much.  No problem.  Getting an auto insurance quote is easy and it’s free.  With a quote, you can find the best auto insurance plan at the cheapest price for your needs.

Call on the Phone

  1. Look for auto insurance advertisements.  They are everywhere, from television ads to magazines and billboards.

  2. Write down the toll-free number for the company being advertised.

  3. Call the auto insurance company.

  4. Provide your name, contact information and reason for your call.  Be honest.  Let the company know that you only want a quote for your automobile insurance and that you are not making any commitment to purchasing anything.

  5. Answer questions regarding the year, make and model of your vehicle.

  6. Tell about your driving record.  Even if you have had an accident or a few tickets, the company needs to know.  By not telling them, you are only hurting yourself.  Before a final policy is issued, the company will run a Motor Vehicle Report which will tell them if you have had any accidents or tickets in the past three years.  Telling them in advance can help them to help you find the best plan for your situation.

  7. Give the agent or representative some time to get a quote or several quotes for your auto insurance.  This may take a few days.  Be patient.

  8. Compare the quote to your current policy or with your budget and determine if this is the right plan for your situation.

 Search on the Web

  1. Go to one of the many auto insurance websites.  You can click on an insurance ad, use a search engine to find a site or search the insurance companies listed on MerchantCircle.

  2. Click the “Get a Quote” tab or button usually located on the insurance company’s home page.  You will be redirected to a page where you will input information.

  3. Type in your personal information including your name, address, phone number and email address.

  4. Provide information regarding your vehicle; the year, make and model are necessary.

  5. Include any requested information regarding your driving record.  You will need to let the company know if you have had any accidents or tickets in the past three years.

  6. Submit the information and wait for a quote.  This may take a few days or you may receive an email with a quote in less than an hour.  Don’t be surprised if you need to be contacted by an agent or representative.  Many companies like to make sure all of the information is correct before finalizing an auto insurance policy.
