How Do You Wax A Car?

When you get your car waxed, it provides a natural shine and helps protect the paint against any scratches and harsh dents. Nothing beats a professional car wax, but doing it yourself can save a lot of money. For professional results, it needs to be reapplied regularly. Follow these steps every few months to protect and maintain your paint finish.

  1. Wash your car with soap and water, and dry it thoroughly.

  2. Before you begin waxing, you must know that some contain abrasives. Using abrasives can damage clear-coat and lacquer finishes and can be harmful to dark-colored paint jobs. To be on the safe side use a nonabrasive wax.

  3. Avoid waxing when it is too hot or very cold outside. The weather should be mild. Drive and park you car in a shady, cool spot. If you can't gain access to a cool spot, wax one section of the car at a time. This will avoid the sun from baking the wax onto your car.

  4. Begin by dipping a damp wax sponge into the car wax. Dip a small clump in your sponge.

  5. Start by rubbing small circle into the car with the wax. Avoid getting wax into seams and jambs. If this does happen, use an older, soft toothbrush to remove it.

  6. Work in sections. Cover the car's entire surface. Once you have finished, it should be ok to remove.

  7. Use a soft terry cloth towel to wipe off the wax in the same order you applied it. Rinse out the towel to avoid wax buildup and streaking.

  8. Lean as close to the car as possible, look on the sides and across the front, roof and back side to spot any residual wax. If you spot any, use your terry cloth to wipe it off.

  9. Use a new cloth towel to polish the car's surface.
