How Much Is a Mustang?

The Mustang, introduced by Ford Motor Company in 1965, is one the most popular cars in the United States. Over the years, the Mustang has gone through several different body style choices. In 2005, Ford Motor Company revised the body style to reflect the styling of models popular in the early 1960s, but with a modern twist. This version of the Mustang is known as the fifth generation Mustang.

  • The cost of a Mustang is dependent on several factors. Mustangs can be purchased used or new. The price of a used Mustang can range as low as $500-$1,000. Mustangs found at this price are generally in need of severe refinishing and a major overhaul. If you are in the market to repair and restore a Mustang, buying a fixer upper may be a good idea. Used Mustangs that have been fairly maintained and are working properly can be priced anywhere from $3,500 and higher.

  • Older Mustang models, pre-1960s and 1970s versions, can be found in very good condition. Most people who are selling a pre-1960s and 1970s models have either restored the Mustang to its original factory condition or have simply taken care of the car and kept it in immaculate condition. Prices for these types of Mustangs can run well over $10,000 and up.

  • New model Mustangs can also range in price, depending on the features you choose and the model.  Ford offers eleven different models of the Mustang. A base model Mustang, the Mustang V6, starts at $22,605. On the high end, a Mustang Shelby GT500 convertible starts at $54,605. If you are looking to purchase a new Mustang, you can use Ford’s website to build and price a Mustang.

  • Mustang prices can also be found by using Kelly Blue Book or Edmunds. MerchantCircle’s website, www.merchantcircle.com, is also a great way to find companies that restore Mustangs and find Mustang dealerships in your area.
