How To Build Bicycle Storage

Bicycles serve as methods of transportation for some people as well as great sporting vehicles for outdoor enthusiasts. A common problem for people who own one or more bicycles is storage. However, this problem is easily solved by building bicycle storage racks.

  1. Determine the number of bicycles that you will need to store on the rack, as well as their individual sizes.

  2. Acquire the necessary tools and supplies. You will need a tape measure, two 2-by-4 boards that measure 4 feet in length, five rubber coated screw-in hooks, and four screws that are around 4 inches in length.

  3. Place the rubber coated hooks in each of the 2-by-4 boards. The hooks should be placed at 22-inch intervals, starting at 2 inches from the edge of the board. One board will have three hooks, while the other will have only two.

  4. Drill pilot holes at around 1 inch from the edges of each board. Ensure that the holes are significantly smaller than the heads of your 4-inch screws.

  5. Use the measurements from step one to designate the places for the boards. Draw one line that is equal to the length of the bike plus two inches. Draw the other line at a place equal to the length of a tire plus two inches above the first line on the wall.

  6. Attach the board with three hooks in it to the area designated by the first line. Insert the screw through the pilot holes and into the wall. Repeat the process with the other board on the line that is above the first board.
