How To Clean Dull Car Headlights
Keeping the headlights of a car clean is something that all drivers should do to ensure their safety when driving at night. It is not uncommon for headlights to accumulate road dust and debris over a period of time. Cleaning them is something that is fairly easy to do and you can do it yourself by following a few simple steps.
How to Clean Dull Car Headlights
- Use masking tape to cover the area surrounding the headlight. This will protect your paint from being scratched.
- Clean the headlight thoroughly with warm water and a mild detergent of your choice.
- Scrub the headlight with a low-grade sandpaper until you notice a yellow film coming off the light. Do not be alarmed if the headlight looks scratched while using the sandpaper because this is normal.
- Use a higher grade of sandpaper and repeat step 3.
- Repeat step 3 one more time using an even higher grade of sandpaper. This higher grade of sandpaper will remove all the scratches caused by the lower grades.
- Apply some cleaner to a towel and rub it on the headlight. Rain-X Extreme Clean is a good type of cleaner to use and it can be purchased at most automotive supply stores.
- Allow the cleaner to thoroughly dry and then buff it off.
- Apply a coat of wax over the lens of the headlight.
- Remove the masking tape and your headlight should look as good as new.
