Materials Needed

- Algaecide
- Large bucket
- Pool chemical test kit
- Chlorine or salt
- Pool brush
- Pool sweeper
- Wear gloves to protect your hands from the chemicals you will be using to clean the pool.
- Determine how many gallons your pool holds. You will need to know this in order to mix the algaecide. Mix the algaecide in a large bucket according to the directions on the package.
- Pour the mixture in the bucket evenly into the pool. The directions on the package may suggest another way and it is the best to follow those.
- Use a pool chemical test kit to test the chlorine levels of the pool. Green pools result when the chlorine levels are out of balance. Add the appropriate amount of chlorine or salt to the pool depending on which type you have.
- Look for the sand filter to your pool. There should be a backwash function located on it. Run the backwash for about three minutes to clean the filter. Turn setting to the filter function once you are finished backwashing the sand filter. Backwashing will clean away any contaminants.
- Locate the grid filter near the pool pump inline. Turn off the main drain valve. Make sure you also turn off the skimmer valve. Clean out the grid filter with water. Turn on the main drain and the skimmer valve once you are done.
- Make sure the pool pump is turned on. Use a pool brush to clean the sides of the pool walls.
- Connect the pool sweeper. Sweep the floor of the pool. The pool sweeper will clean the floor with suction.
- Repeat Step 5. Run the pool pump again until you notice the pool is not green anymore. It should turn blue again.
- Set the timer on the pool pump is set to operate every 8 hours every day. This will help keep the pool in good condition, especially when the pool is used on a regular basis.
