How To Clean an Air Filter
When the air filter on your car is clean, it increases the gas mileage and horsepower. There are many air filters available on the market that is washable and the paper ones can be cleaned also. You can take the air filter off of the vehicle yourself and clean it to save money and perform helpful maintenance on your car.
Materials Needed:
- Degreaser
Instructions:
- Look for the air filter on your car. It is commonly in a black box that has clips around it. No tools are needed to remove the cover from the box. Remove the clips from the box and open it. Remove the air filter.
- Hold the air filter up to the light and inspected for dirt. A dirty air filter does not allow you to see light through it. A clean air filter allows you to see light through it.
- Spray the air filter with degreaser such as Simple Green. Allow the degreaser to work on the air filter for approximately 20 min.
- Allow the air filter to dry for approximately 2 hours. The air filter should be completely dry.
- Replace the filter back into the black box it came out of. Replace the lid it back on the box and secure it with the clips.
