How To Close a Swimming Pool
Closing a swimming pool is usually a bittersweet task for pool owners. It means the summer is over, but it also means no more worries of a running pool for a while. Properly closing a pool is necessary to maintain its function and the longevity of its use. It only takes a few steps to close a pool correctly.
1. Clean the pool. The pool should be cleaned with a special scrubber and vacuumed completely.
2. Test the chemical levels. Use a water tester to verify the correct chemical levels in the water. Add any needed chemicals to correct levels.
3. Clean the filter, skimmer and pump area. The will keep it functioning properly for the next summer season.
4. Drain water. The water level should be lowered to a few inches below the skimmer line.
5. Cover the pool. Secure the cover with appropriate tie downs.
6. Clean and store all equipment and chemicals. Remove any scum or debris from the pool and other cleaning equipment. Store equipment, along with leftover chemicals in a clean, dry and climate controlled area for use next swimming season.
