How To Drain a Pool
If you need to patch the liner, clean the interior or take a pool down for winter, you will first need to drain all of the water from it. This process is somewhat time consuming, but not hard to do. Before draining your pool, you may want to follow the directions in you user manual to flush the filter and help clean the pool.
Step 1: Locate the release valve opening on your pool. This valve is located on the outside of the pool and is usually near the bottom of the pool. If your pool has a pump and filter system, you may find the release valve nearby.
Step 2: Attach a pool hose or garden hose to the release valve and place the other end of the hose into a drain or as close to a drain as you can get.
Step 3: Turn the pool filter and pump off. The water will begin to drain through the release valve. Once the water level has dropped below the release valve, the water will no longer be able to drain out of it.
Step 4: Use a garden hose to siphon the remaining water from the pool. Place the hose in the water, and run the other end over the side of the pool and attach it to your outside spigot. Turn the water on and let it run into the pull for at least 30 seconds.
Step 5: Turn off the water. The water running in will stop and the water in the pool will begin to run out of the pool through the hose. This should drain the remaining water from the pool.
Step 6: Use a small cup to remove any water that may have been left behind in small puddles. Once all the water has been trained from the pool. You can repair the liner, clean the interior or take the pool apart.
