How To Fix a Sagging Pool Liner

 Swimming pool

Over time the vinyl liner in your swimming pool may begin to sag or gape open near the track that holds the liner in place.  Usually this is caused by fluctuation in temperature throughout the year.  As the liner cools and heats, it begins to stretch and pop out near the corners, trim or other particular spots on the pool.

Sagging Pool Liner
  1. Ask a friend or relative to help you, as this process will work easier with two people, especially if you have many sagging areas.
  2. Boil water on the stove until it reaches a rapid boil.
  3. Pour the boiling water onto the sagging vinyl.  This will help soften the vinyl and make it easier to pull back into place.
  4. Pull the vinyl into place.  The best way to do this is with one person pouring the water while the other pulls on the vinyl.  Take your time with this process, you don’t want to tear the vinyl.

  5. Use a flathead screwdriver to push the vinyl back in the track.  If you have a large section of sagging liner, you may need to use wooden clothes pins as pegs and place them ever few inches to help hold the liner in place.
  6. Allow the liner to cool.  As it cools it will stay in place.  You can remove any pegs after two hours of cooling.
