How To Get Eye Shadow to Last All Day

Perfectly applied eye shadow can set the stage for your overal look and make your eyes standout in a crowd. But if it doesn't last, your efforts can be gone before your day comes to an end. Fortunately, there are techniques that you can use when applying your makeup that helps make your shadow last well into the evening hours.

What You'll Need:

  • Powder eye shadow

  • Eye shadow primer

  • Concealer

  • Translucent face powder

  • Cream eye shadow

  • Powder brush

  • Synthetic eye shadow brush

Method One - Primer:

  1. Apply an eye shadow primer over your entire lid and let it set for one to two minutes. The primer helps enhance the color and staying power of the shadow.

  2. Use concealer if you do not have primer on hand. Apply a thin amount of concealer to your lid along with a light dusting of face powder.

  3. Apply your eye shadow color over the primer or concealer as you would normally.

  4. Set the color with a light dusting of translucent face powder.

Method Two - Layering Eye Shadow

  1. Apply a cream eye shadow to your lids using a synthetic eye shadow brush.

  2. Go over the top of the cream shadow using a powder shadow. Use a color that matches the one that you already have on your lids. This additional layer helps the shadow to hold as well as enhance, or deepen the colors.

  3. Use a large powder brush to dust over your closed lids. The powder also helps to set the color.

Method Three - A Damp Brush:

  1. Wet the bristles of your eyeshadow brush lightly with water.

  2. Blot the bristles against a clean tissue or paper towel. The brush should be damp, but not overly wet.

  3. Run the damp brush over the surface of your powder eye shadow to pick up the color.

  4. Apply your eye shadow as you would normally.

  5. Dust your face and lids with a translucent face powder to set the shadow.

Tips

  • Refrain from using any type of cream or moisturizer on your lids, particularly if you have oily skin.
