How To Get Into a Used Car Auction
Used car auctions are one of the best ways to get a decent used car for a cheap rate. Sometimes the cars for auction are not running or need to be restored. Other times they are just taking up space but otherwise fine. The type of used car auction you attend will determine the price of a used car that you will pay as well as how you get into the used car auction.
- Tow Lot Auctions- Tow lots will often have used car auctions when they start getting an excess of used cars that nobody has bothered to collect. Once the tow yard has had possession of the car for ninety days or longer, they can be sold at auction. Tow lots will often post an ad in the paper to advertise the auction. When this happens, some may require that you call to receive an invite if there are limited amounts of cars.
- Police Auctions- The police impounds these cars after arresting someone. These cars are always in some kind of working order and sell for cheap because the police want them gone to make room for other cars that have been impounded to get into a police auction for a used car, look in the paper for an advertisement or call the non-emergency police hotline and ask when the next one will be held.
- Junkyard Auctions- As hard as it may be to believe, junkyards will sometimes have too many cars. When this happens, they will hold an auction for the cars that they want to get rid of. These cars are never in working order and will require work to run properly. To get into a junkyard auction, call the junkyard and ask when they will be holding the next auction.
- Classic Car Auctions- These auctions are usually very publicized and held in convention centers and expo centers. Classic car auctions are often advertised for months on television, flyers around town as well as on the radio and in papers because they want a huge turn out. To get into a classic car auction simply go to the place that the auction is being held. There is sometimes a fee associated with getting into the hosting site, but it is minimal.
