How To Get a Permit for Raising Wild Animals

Those who have love for animals may consider raising wild animals. But under certain laws there are major restrictions that allow individuals to raise wild animals. Depending upon the type of the animal and reason for keeping them, you may be able to get a permit. Most of these permits are given to individuals who plan to release the animals later.

  • Visit the Division of Fish and Wildlife office in your area. If you have animals that have been acquired legally you will be given an application to fill out. There will be a list attached that will tell you which animals will be given a permit to raise. If the animal is not one the list you can ask, but most likely you will not be given a permit for them.

  • Complete your application that will include a small permit fee. Your application will need a signature of a veterinarian that has examined the animal and gives testimony the animal is free of diseases, and has been immunized and is in good health. If you cannot get this information you will have to present a health certificate for the animal.

  • Have the cage or area inspected where you will be keeping your pet. You will need an conservation officer to inspect the area where you will be keeping your animal. They will certify the area is safe and in good condition to raise your animal.

  • Pay your fees and signed all documents for your permit. You must have a permit before you can take possession of your animal.

  • Make sure you read your application and all enclosures with the wild life packet and follow through with orders to avoid being fined or found guilty for committing a crime.
