How To Make Button Charm Jewelry
Crafts can provide hours of fun for the entire family. Button charm jewelry can challenge your creativity and fashion skills, while occupying your kids--especially middle school girls--for hours. Creating jewelry with buttons and beads is not as complicated as it may seem.
Button jewelry can be a fun activity for the entire family, the process is very similar to other beading projects. Follow some simple steps when beginning.
- Gather some buttons and beads in various colors, styles, and sizes of your choosing. Other materials that you will need are clasps, wire, wire cutters, and pliers.
- Begin with a piece of wire that is two to three inches in length. Determine the length by examining the size of the buttons you will be using. For larger buttons, use a longer length. Bend the wire length in half, resulting in a “U” shape. One end of the wire should be pushed through each button hole.
- Push the wire length all the way through until you reach the surface of the button, and then spread the wire out in the back.
- Curl the ends of the wire into a circular loop using pliers.
- Cut another piece of wire, between one and two inches. Determine the length of the wire by examining the size of the bead. For larger beads, use a longer length. Use your pliers to make a “P” loop on one end of the wire, and thread a bead onto the other end of the wire.
- Connect the bead link to the button link, and then make a “P” loop on the other end.
- Construct additional links in the same manner until the bracelet or necklace is the desired length. A good rule of thumb is that a bracelet should be between seven and eight inches, and a necklace should be between seventeen and nineteen inches in length.
- Attach a clasp of your choosing to complete the jewelry and enjoy!
