How To Make Fabric Jewelry
People are often looking for new ways to make some extra money, and some are even looking for new business ventures. Either way, tough times call for creative ways to make a living. We have all heard the saying, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." When you are stuck with excess fabric, make fabulous fabric jewelry. (Try saying that tongue twister seven times.)
- Cut some fabric pieces into triangles and rectangles. Dip each piece into a small bowl of fabric stiffener, coating each piece thoroughly. Wring out the excess fabric stiffener.
- Grab a pencil and roll the fabric around it. Triangle shapes should be started from the wide base; rectangle shapes start from either short end. The entire pencil should have fabric wrapped around it, or you can wrap multiple pieces around one pencil.
- Grab as many pencils that you can find and repeat Steps 1 and 2 for all the fabric pieces you need for your jewelry item. Allow the fabric pieces to dry for at least 24 hours. Remove the pencils after the pieces are dry.
- Coat each piece of fabric with some clear nail polish. Wait until it dries before adding a second coat.
- Grab a substantial piece of rattail cord.
- Place your fabric pieces along the length of your rattail cord. Place them how you desire your necklace to look.
- Whittle down the rattail to get rid of the excess cord.
- Apply a little bit of hypo cement on each end and then slip a crimp on each end.
- Allow your new jewelry piece to dry for at least 24 hours before taking needle-nose pliers to attach a clasp to each crimp. Voila! Time to sell your stuff.
