How To Make Temporary Dentures at Home
It is not always easy to get dentures when they may be needed. There is an issue of money to consider, particularly with the rising health care and dental costs, and an appointment may take months to make. However, temporary dentures can be prepared with the following steps.
What you will need:
dental tray, lighter, wax, alginate, ultracel, acrylic fluid, acrylic powder, clay, releasing agent, water, cloths, transparent nail polish, dremel sander, pressure cooker, dentist tools, stirring sticks, sculpting tooks, small plastic containers, toothpaste and toothbrush
Preparing the cast:
- Pour alginate into a dental tray
- After a few minutes, pull out the tray. This will make a cast.
- Make a mixture of ultracel and pour it into the cast of alginate. Pat the cast, which will release air bubbles. It will also allow the ultracel to completely fill the cast. Leave the ultracel in the cast for about an hour.
- Pull the case from the tray with care to prevent any damage to the plaster.
- Make any needed repairs to the plaster with the dental tools, but be careful not the break the plaster.
The sculpting process:
- Place the mold of plaster in an upright position on a table. The teeth should be facing up.
- Pour a thin layer of melted wax onto the plaster.
- Sculpt the teeth using the sculpting tools.
- Melt the teeth's surface carefully, and slightly, using the lighter. This will produce a shiny and smooth surface.
- Put a little clay on top of the gum line.
Preparing the mold of the sculpted teeth:
- Prepare a mix of alginate and pour it into a container.
- Cover the cast with alginate.
- Keep it in place until it dries.
- Take out any extra alginate on the cast once it has dried.
- Separate the cast from the alginate with care.
- Make sure there is no remaining wax in the mold.
Finalizing the dentures:
- Brush a thin layer of release agent on the cast. After it dries, repeat this process twice more.
- Pour a few drops of the acrylic fluid on the mold.
- Drip acrylic powder on the mold.
- Test the fit of the plaster teeth by altering its position in the mold.
- Put a small weight on the plaster case inside the mold. Keep it there for a few minutes.
- Put the mold into a pressure cooker topped with hot water.
- Let it set for about fifteen minutes.
- Pull the case out of the pressure cooker.
- Carefully separate the molds.
- Pull the plastic teeth out of the cast.
- Separate any extra plastic using the dremel tool.
