How To Make a Hemp Necklace

Hemp can be used for many things, and making necklaces is one of them. It is great for making necklaces because of its versatility. It is also relatively cheap, and a fun activity to do whether you are relaxing at home or sitting by the pool.  You can make your own hemp necklace by following some simple steps.

Preparation:

1. Get together needed materials. You will need a ball of hemp, beads, used jewerly, and scissors.


2. Measure the length around your neck and multiply it by 12.


3. Cut a strand from the hemp ball of the length that you got in step number 2.


4. Repeat step 3 by making another strand of equal length from the hemp ball.


5. Fold the two strands in the middle over your left index finger.


6. Make an overhand knot.

Making the necklace:

1. Secure the overhand knot with a heavy object, such as a thick book. This will help keep the necklace in place as you pull on the remaining four strands.  


2. Separate the four strands into three different sections. For example, take a single strand and put it aside to the left, another single strand to the right, and two for the middle.


3. Take the right strand and lay it over the left strand, and to the right of the middle strand. Then pull the same strand on the point at which the other sections meet.


4. Pull the left strand taut with your right hand. Make sure that your right hand is tight with your left hand. This should make a knot just below the other knot.


5. Repeat this process, always making sure that you begin with strand that is now on the left.
