How To Paint Car With Acrylic Lacquer
One way to achieve that brand new showroom appearance for your car is to try painting with a special acrylic lacquer made just for that purpose. Acrylic lacquer is a varnish that can be either transparent or colored that is used to produce a matte or sheen finish on the surface of a car. This task is normally taken on by a professional but can also be done by a novice.
Items needed:
- 80-grit paper
- 1200-grit paper
- Tack cloth
- Plastic tarp
- Newspaper
- Auto paint primer
- Auto acrylic lacquer
Instructions:
- Use an 80-grit paper over the entire vehicle. Be careful not to expose the metal when sanding, doing so can cause rusting and other unattractive appearances.
- Take a tack cloth and brush away any particles that were created by sanding the car.
- Cover up the windows by using a lightweight plastic tarp or newspaper and tape.
- Spray two even layers primer all over the car then let it set for 12 hours or until dry.
- Take a wet 1200-grit sandpaper and remove all the lumps and uneven spots. Do not maneuver the paper in circular motions, instead move it back and forth using long and steady strokes.
- Rinse with water once finished and allow the surface to dry completely.
- Use up to six coats of acrylic lacquer on the body of the car. Unless painting a small area, it is always best to use a spray gun to apply the paint. Wait at least 15 minutes (or whatever flash time is indicated) between each application of acrylic lacquer.
- Let the paint dry for at least eight hours or more. After it has dried, wet another 1200-grit sandpaper to smooth out any uneven surfaces. Rinse and dry.
