How To Paint a Decal on a Car

Getting a car repainted can be a costly venture. A person can still customize and change their car's appearance without a complete paint job. They can do this by decals. Decals come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. These are fully customizable and can be applied by anyone.

  1. Buy the decals. Make sure that you choose a decal that you are positive that you want. While decals are not as permanent as a new paint job, they are still not something to choose lightly.

  2. Get some help. Applying decals often will take more than one person. Enlisting a friend or family member to help is an excellent idea.

  3. Clean the car that you are going to place the decals on. Many people do not wash their car thoroughly before apply decals. This is the most important step of all. Applying decals to a dirty car is a bad decision. The decals will attach to the dirt and the grime, not to the car. They will prematurely fall off if the car is not cleaned beforehand.

  4. Decide where the decals should go. Take a few walks around your car to determine where they would look the best. Place them in the desired spot with your hands to get an idea how they will look.

  5. Paint the decals onto the car. There are different methods on doing this. The most popular is to apply the body cuts first. You can cut out the stickers after you are done.

  6. Paint clear coat over the decal. This will help protect the decal from the weather.
