How To Relieve Tanning Bed Burns

There are very few things in life as painful as a tanning bed burn. Although they will heal over time, there is usually excruciating pain while a person is going through the healing process. There are several things that a person can do to help relieve the the pain.

  1. After you get out of the tanning bed and find out that your skin has burned, immediately go home and take a cool bath. You can also soak in oatmeal or an oatmeal product like Aveeno.

  2. After taking a bath, slowly pat yourself dry with a clean towel. Under no circumstances should you rub your skin with a towel, because this will aggravate your burn and cause further damage. Then apply an aloe vera cream, lotion, or spray to the affected areas. This will help cool the burning sensation that you are feeling.

  3. Once you are dry, put on loose-fitting clothing. Choose fabrics that are cool and will wick easily.

  4. Take aspirin or ibuprofen to help relieve the inflammation from the burn. Follow the directions on the medication and seek the advice of your doctor before taking any medication.

  5. If your burn begins to blister, do not pick at it. This could cause the blister to break open and get infected. If for some reason the blister does open, clean the wound and cover it immediately with a loose-fitting bandage.

  6. Under no circumstances should you return to the tanning salon until the burn has healed completely. You must also monitor the amount of time that you are out in the sun. The more UV rays that your skin soaks up, the harder it will be for the burn to heal.
